No matter the industry, all cooperative businesses adhere to seven guiding principles. Principle #7 is "Concern for Community." Hancock-Wood's mission is to develop, implement, and communicate our concern for community by sponsoring and supporting charitable organizations, as well as programs and activities that improve the communities where our members and employees live and work. We uphold this principle through a variety of ways:

  • Donations and Sponsorships Committee - Our donations within our service area include both monetary and item contributions to benefit worthy causes and nonprofit agencies and schools, until annual funds are depleted

DONATION REQUESTS ARE CONSIDERED EACH MONTH BY THE DONATIONS AND GRANTS COMMITTEE. TO BE CONSIDERED, SUBMIT REQUEST IN WRITING INCLUDING AGENCY (must be on official letterhead) OR INDIVIDUAL NAME, CONTACT, PHONE NUMBER, ADDRESS, SPECIFIC DONATION NEEDED, SPECIFIC DEADLINE NEEDED BY (ALLOW SIX WEEKS) AND WHO OR WHAT PROGRAM WILL BENEFIT. IF AN AD OR ITEM(S) ARE NEEDED, PLEASE CONTACT US BY PHONE AT 800-445-4840 TO DESCRIBE SPECIFICS.

Due to the large volume of requests received and a limited budget, we cannot honor every request for funds, but we endeavor to support as many organizations as possible by ensuring that our budget is distributed fairly. Those organizations given preferential consideration will demonstrate how they will enhance the quality of life of our members and their communities, and in which Hancock-Wood's participation is seen as contributing to this end. Priority also will be given to supporting organizations or causes in which Hancock-Wood employees are actively involved, and/or communities in which they live. Donation requests may be submitted via fax to 419-257-3024 or mailed to:

  • Operation Round Up - Our general cooperative donation program described is independent of the Operation Round Up program. To apply for a grant application for funds through Operation Round Up, click here.
  • Annual Meeting food donation drive provides hundreds of nonperishable food items for local homeless and needy citizens.
  • Employees - Our employees volunteer for many worthy groups. Employees have donated their work time to serve on committees, speaking engagements, string community holiday lights and to set poles for nonprofit group projects, to name a few.
  • Community Volunteerism - We are active in several community organizations in an effort to improve the quality of life of our members and communities we serve. We also anticipate that our support will have a positive economic impact on Hancock-Wood through increased sales.
  • Environment /Green- While we serve on several environmentally-focused community groups, we also assist the area each year with an extensive Christmas tree chipping project to recycle and use the mulch for neighborhood projects.
  • Events - Each year, we conduct our own Family Fun Day, Annual Meeting and other fun, company-sponsored events. We also participate in the Farm Science Review, county fairs and other local events to support community activities and promote our services.
  • Scholarships - We donate thousands of dollars each year to the children of our members to help defray the cost of college education. We also team up with the University of Findlay and Owens Community College in funding specific scholarships at each higher learning facility.
  • International Relief - Hancock-Wood's national organization, NRECA, maintains an international foundation to promote American character around the globe. Collectively with hundreds of other U.S. cooperatives, our total contributions to this foundation have helped to start an electric cooperative in Haiti, electrify a remote Guatemalan village and create new jobs.
